Because of the selfless acts of his rescuers in the Belgian Resistance, Bill stayed one step ahead of the Gestapo for seven months in 1943 and 1944, until his eventual arrest and incarceration in a brutal Nazi prison in Brussels. After more than sixty years of silence, surviving Resistance fighters have come forward to share their stories for the benefit of current and future generations.

Through their stories, and with the support of experts and historians, the film explores the myriad motivations — ethical, spiritual, and ideological — that propel one stranger to help another, despite the risk to his or her own life and everything dear.
