Saving Austin’s History
Austin is the fastest growing large city in the United States. As of 2015, over 110 people move to Austin Texas everyday, according to demographer Ryan Robinson. But as the city grows, it’s history is at risk of being lost. Photos, archives, documents, and film footage are nearly impossible to keep up with. In the Real Change Film Frenzy, Ten filmmaking teams are given a week to make a film from start to finish for one of their favorite Austin nonprofits. At the end of the week, the works premiere at the Alamo Drafthouse. We wanted to make a film tribute to the Austin History Center Association, an organization who provides us with archival footage for our documentaries like When I Rise (SXSW, PBS Independent Lens), our Emmy-nominated “The Hunt" (ESPN Longhorn Network), and Austin Revealed (SXSW, KLRU). The need to save Austin’s history, especially in a time of immense growth, has never been more urgent.
